Are you intrigued by the possibility of working at the United Nations?
Our spring careers event will provide an employment scope of the UN Secretariat — courtesy of Asim Sharma, the Outreach Chief in the UN Office of Human Resources Management, who will speak to attendees about various types of positions available at the United Nations worldwide, and discuss possible career paths with interested participants.
We are especially looking for attendees with some professional work experience for P3-P5 levels (at least 5 years or more). Also, since the United States is under represented at the UN, we especially welcome U.S. nationals to attend this event.
We hope you will join us for this UNA-NY Career Event, to meet and speak with Mr. Sharma, who will provide valuable advice while sharing his experience.
Asim Sharma as the Chief of Outreach Unit in the Office of Human Resources Management of the United Nations, leads and manages outreach activities to source and attract talent with a view to improving geographical balance (under and non-represented Member States) and to assist efforts towards gender parity.
He brings to the position, professional experience of over 26 years, of which more than 16 years are within the United Nations system. Earlier as Senior Officer in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (2008-17), his work included providing strategic advice to the Chef de Cabinet of the Secretary-General on a broad range of management issues of the Organization, facilitating inter-agency coordination and maintaining effective partnerships with Member States.
His earlier assignments within the United Nations Secretariat were with the Department of Management and Department of Peacekeeping Operations. His first assignment at the United Nations began in 2000 as Civil Affairs Officer with the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). He also briefly worked with UNESCO.
Prior to joining the United Nations, he worked for the Government of India from 1990 to 2000 in different capacities, on subjects ranging from accountability, good governance and economic administration. While serving the Government of India, he participated in several outreach missions for promoting Foreign Direct Investment in his country.
He is also a qualified Chartered Accountant and had a brief tenure with Price Waterhouse Coopers in India from 1986 to 1990 before he joined the Government of India.
NOTE: Only UNA-NY Members have guaranteed seating to all our Career Events, and attend for free or pay the discounted Members' admission, while Student Members attend all events for free.
