Days after young Egyptians started their revolt against former President Hosni Mubarak, Khaled Dawoud, a New-York based Egyptian journalist, went back home to witness an unprecedented era in Egypt's history. For 12 days, Dawoud lived with protesters in Tahrir Square, and experienced the evolution of this revolt, and its moment of success after Mubarak finally bowed to popular pressure and was forced out of office.

The main question for Egyptians now is: what's next and how they can assure a transformation towards genuine democracy and rule of law.

Khaled Dawoud is UN Correspondent for Lebanon's pan-Arab daily, As-Safir. Before that, he worked for four years as Al-Jazeera Arabic Correspondent in New York. From 2002-06, he was bureau chief of Egypt's daily Arabic newspaper Al-Ahram in Washington, D.C. Besides traveling around the United States, he also delivered lectures at universities and participated in discussions on Middle Eastern issues.

Mr. Dawoud was also an analyst and commentator for major Arabic satellite television channels and radio stations, including Al-Jazeera, Arabiya, LBC, Al-Hurra, and the BBC Arabic Service. He appeared on local U.S. networks such as CNN, PBS, FOX and NBC to comment on issues related to the Middle East.

Mr. Dawoud's extensive experience as a correspondent included stints at The Guardian, African Service, the Lebanese daily Annahar, Reuters, Associated Press, the German News Agency (dpa), United Press International (UPI) and The Egyptian Gazette.
