Ambassador Yuriy Sergeyev
Ambassador Yuriy A. Sergeyev is currently a Senior Fellow at the MacMillan Center for International and Regional Studies at Yale University.
Ambassador Sergeyev recently served as Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, from May 2007 to December 2015, after which he announced his retirement from diplomatic duties in February. Mr. Sergeyev also served as Chair of the Sixth Committee (Legal and Administrative) of the United Nations General Assembly during its 67th session in 2012-2013.
Prior to that appointment, Mr. Sergeyev was Ambassador to France from 2003, during which time he was also Permanent Representative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Between 2001 and 2003, he was Secretary of State at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, a position he held after having served five months in 2001 as First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs. From 2000 to 2001, he was Director-General for Foreign Policy in the Administration of the President of Ukraine. Between 1997 and 2000, Mr. Sergeyev was Ambassador to Greece and Albania.
Mr. Sergeyev earned a doctorate at T. Shevchenko Kyiv State University in 1981.
