UNA-USA’s HERO campaign (Help Educate At-Risk Orphans and Vulnerable Children) provides critical school-based support for HIV/AIDS - affected children in four program countries: South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and Ethiopia. In each country, HERO provides funds to local partners to implement “HERO Packages”, which include infrastructural support, such as the construction of classrooms, toilets and water wells, and address the basic and educational needs of the most vulnerable learners through the provision of school lunches, books and classroom resources, food gardens and psychosocial support.
For the first time in our chapter’s history we are able to make a generous contribution to HERO and make a difference in the lives of children. UNA of New York will be funding the emergency needs of four under-resourced schools in Namibia, three kindergarten’s and one primary school. The chapter’s donation will meet all of the most urgent needs of these schools including the construction of a new classroom, security fencing, a kitchen, clean water and feeding programs. Please join us to hear first-hand from Susan Fox, Program Manager of HERO, about the needs of the schools and how our chapter’s support will make a positive change in the lives of the children and the local community.
