FilmTalkUNA / Screening the Issues
Since January 2009, our FilmTalkUNA series has been promoting the work of the United Nations with screening events that serve a dual purpose: to commend the intelligence of filmmakers who have the courage and passion to address crucial human concerns while presenting important global issues to a culturally aware New York audience. The mission of UNA-NYC is to educate, inspire and mobilize the New York City community and to raise awareness of the vital work of the United Nations.
These screenings are followed by lively discussions with the filmmakers themselves, or experts from the United Nations, about issues illustrated by or dealt with in the films. As seating is limited, and because of this special opportunity for dialogue with our guests, we strongly encourage reservations for these events.
Cinema has long been recognized as one of the most effective ways to educate and motivate a community. We showcase films that represent a wide range of countries and speak out for pressing issues such as human rights, global health, climate change, natural resources and water scarcity, peacekeeping, poverty, nuclear proliferation and international terrorism. In our interdependent world, the resolution of these issues and challenges are crucial to international peace and security.
