AMBASSADOR MASOOD KHAN

Ambassador Masood Khan was appointed by the Government of Pakistan as Pakistan's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations on October 11, 2012.

From September 2008 to September 2012, he served as Pakistan's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China. He has also served as Pakistan's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva. He has worked as Director General (United Nations) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad and also served as Director General (Disarmament). In 2003, he was appointed as Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a position he held till March 2005.

Ambassador Khan has worked in various diplomatic positions in Pakistan's Embassies in Beijing, The Hague and Washington DC. He worked in Pakistan's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York from 1993 to 1997. During that period, he held the positions of Vice Chairman of the Third Committee for the 1996-97 UNGA session and acted as facilitator of the UNGA's Social Summit resolutions and the ECOSOC Committee that finalized the text on the consultative relationship between the United Nations and non-governmental organizations.

Over the years, he has also specialized in multilateral diplomacy. Various positions he has held in multilateral and intergovernmental forums include among others, President of the Conference on Disarmament (2005), Chairman of the Committee on the Internet Governance of the World Summit on the Information Society (2005), Chairman of the International Organization for Migration Council (2005-2006), and President of the 6th Review Conference of the Biological Weapons Convention (2006).

Ambassador Khan has represented Pakistan at many UN conferences and summits as delegate, representative and leader of delegation. He has spoken widely at various national and international forums, think tanks and academic institutions on Pakistan's foreign policy, peace and security issues, and disarmament diplomacy.

He has also acquired expertise in security and disarmament issues, human rights, and social development as well as Pakistan's relations with major countries and regions.

Before joining the Foreign Service of Pakistan, Ambassador Khan was a Lecturer in English. During that period he was also a TV presenter and an English newscaster with Radio Pakistan.
