AMBASSADOR CESARE RAGAGLINI
Ambassador Ragaglini received his degree in International Relations from the Université Libre de Bruxelles in 1975 and in Political Science, with an international focus, from the University of Florence in 1976. He joined the Italian Foreign Service in 1978.
His diplomatic career spanned many regions and assignments starting in Teheran in 1981. He served in Ottowa for three years before returning to Rome where he was assigned to Parliament, monitoring the passage of important legislation regarding Italy's foreign affairs. He created the Italian Foreign Ministry's Intelligence Unit, which he directed until 1992.
Ambassador Ragaglini was appointed Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy in New Delhi in 1992 and served there for three years before returning to Rome as Deputy Acting Head in the Press and Information Service.
In 1996, he was assigned to reopen the Italian Diplomatic Mission in Baghdad, where he remained as Head of Mission until 1999.
Before taking up his position in New York, he served as Deputy Diplomatic Advisor to the Prime Minister, Chef de Cabinet of the Foreign Minister of Italy and, most recently, Director General for the Countries of the Mediterranean and Middle East.
He was awarded the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2006.
We were able to welcome Ambassador Ragaglini to New York as Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations in July 2009.
