AMBASSADOR NAMIK TAN

Ambassador Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti is the Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations since of July 2007. Viotti was the President of the United Nations Security Council throughout February 2011.

Ambassador Viotti joined the Brazilian Foreign Service in 1976 and held several positions within the Ministry of External Relations. Overseas assignments included First Secretary at the Brazilian Mission to the United Nations from (1985-89) and Counselor at the Brazilian Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia (1993-95).

In 2005 she assumed the post of Chargé d'affaires of Brazil to the United Nations. Ambassador Viotti was appointed Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in January 2007. She also presented her credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in July of that year.
