Join us for this event in our acclaimed Ambassador Series, when we will host an evening of discussion with Ambassador Jérôme Bonnafont, the Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations, who will be joined by UN correspondent and foreign affairs reporter Stéphanie Fillion.
Mr. Jérôme Bonnafont took up his post as Ambassador, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations in New York on March 17, 2025.
He previously served as Ambassador, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations Office in Geneva and international organizations in Switzerland since September 2021. At the same time, he served as the rapporteur-general of the "Etats généraux de la diplomatie" (National Roundtable on Diplomacy), a wide-ranging consultation launched by the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, and then Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, and which led to the March 2023 plan to transform and strengthen France's diplomatic apparatus.
He was also an advisor to Prime Minister Edouard Philippe in 2020, Director of the North Africa and Middle East Department (2015-2019), Ambassador to Madrid (2012-2015), Chief of Staff to the Minister for Foreign Affairs Alain Juppé (2011-2012), and Ambassador to New Delhi (2007-2011).
The Ambassador served as advisor for global affairs and then spokesman for the Presidency from 1997 to 2007 under President Jacques Chirac.
A graduate of the "Denis Diderot" class of the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (ENA -1986), Jérôme Bonnafont also served in New Delhi (1986-1989), in the Department of Economic Affairs (1989-1991), in Kuwait (1991-1993), at the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations in New York (1993-1995), in the Department of Legal Affairs (1995-1996), and at the Ministry of the Environment (1996-1997).
Jérôme Bonnafont is married and has one child.

Stéphanie Fillion is a New York-based reporter specializing in foreign affairs and human rights and a United Nations correspondent. Her work was published in outlets like Forbes, Foreign Policy, Radio-Canada, La Stampa and the Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun.
She has a master's degree in journalism, politics and global affairs from Columbia University and a BA in political science from McGill University.
In recent years, her UN coverage received two UN Correspondent Association awards as well as a Gracie award from the Alliance for Women in Media.
She writes in French, English and Italian.
