Join us to experience the culture of the People's Republic of China — a sovereign state located in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.35 billion, throughout a vast and diverse landscape.
While the history of China goes back to ancient civilization, one of the world's earliest, today's China is a wide-ranging and vibrant player on the world economic stage, with a varied and rich culture that is the focus of tonight's presentation at the Chinese Consulate General in New York.
The consular district of the Chinese Consulate General in New York covers ten states in the U.S. Northeast: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. Since its establishment in 1981, the Consulate General has been committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and the ten states in various fields, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese citizens, and providing quality and efficient consular services for Chinese and American people.
We warmly welcome Ambassador and Consul General Sun Guoxiang, who will guide us this evening through many impressions of Chinese culture and history, as well as tasty samplings of a light, Chinese-style buffet. Who knows — there may even be a highlight featuring Chinese music!
SUN GUOXIANG
Ambassador and Consul General Sun Guoxiang, of Zhejiang descent, was born in Shanghai in February 1953. He has a master's degree.

1993-2002: Deputy Director, Director, then Deputy Director General, Department of Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
1995-1996: School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University, USA
1991-1993: Second Secretary, then First Secretary, Chinese Embassy in Canada
1984-1991: Third Secretary, then Second Secretary, General Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
1983-1984: Staff Member, Department of Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
1980-1983: Staff Member, Chinese Embassy in the Lao People's Democratic Republic
Ambassador Sun is married with a son.
