DR. ASHA-ROSE MIGIRO
Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro of Tanzania took office as Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations on February 1, 2007. Prior to this position, she served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Tanzania and Minister of Community Development, Gender and Children. She was also a member of the Faculty of Law at the University of Dar-es-Salaam where she rose to the rank of Senior Lecturer. She was a member of Tanzania’s Law Reform Commission in 1997 and a member of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women in 2000. She obtained a
Master of Laws from the University of Dar-es-Salaam in 1984 and a Doctorate in Law from the University of Konstanz in Germany in 1992.
