Film Panel on “The Good Lie”
Our late summer Screening the Issues event was an exclusive New York presentation of The Good Lie, followed by a panel discussion about the experience of the "Lost Boys" of Sudan and the refugee crisis during the years of the Sudanese war. The inspiring film itself depicted some of those experiences, as well as the fortunate outcome for some of the war orphans who found their way to safe haven in the United States.
Our special guests on the panel were: the film's screenwriter Margaret Nagle, who has garnered many awards and nominations for her work, including the Good Lie; Ger Duany, himself a former refugee among others who also appeared in the film, and who is currently a successful actor and model, as well as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador; Phillippe Falardeau, the director of the film, which won the longest standing ovation in the history of the Toronto International Film Festival; and Andrew Reynolds, a consultant and research professor specializing in democratization issues, as well as the presence and impact of minorities and marginalized communities.
The highly engaging panel was moderated by United Nations Association of New York board member Trisha Bauman.
