UNA-NYC Raises Over $3000 for Local Charity
As we celebrate Thanksgiving at the tail end of a difficult year, with the ongoing pandemic continuing to spell great uncertainty for many New Yorkers, it is especially important to be thankful for all that we have — and to be cognizant of what others do not.
With this in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that the United Nations Association of New York donated 100 percent of the proceeds from our inaugural UN Day 5K Run to One Community in Fort Greene, a charity in Brooklyn that aims to reduce inequality and create structural change by supporting the most vulnerable members of our community. Among its various programs, One Community has been providing food to over 1,000 households with seniors and other at-risk people while the pandemic has kept us in our homes.
The nearly 200 people who ran, walked, and biked in celebration of the United Nations’ 75th anniversary helped us raise a total of $3,300, which we’re delighted to be giving to such a worthy cause. Javita Nauth, one of our UNA-USA Emerging Leaders Fellows who played a key role in organizing the 5K, delivered the check to One Community’s Jed Marcus and met his team of volunteers.
