What New York City is Doing
Rebuild, Renew, Reinvent: A Blueprint for New York City’s Economic Recovery
In March this year, Mayor Eric Adams released this five-part plan to guide New York City’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, including supporting small businesses and better connecting New Yorkers to jobs.
Minimum wage raised to $15 per hour
Although it is New York State that sets minimum wage in New York City, the City has successfully campaigned to raise it. Minimum wage has more than doubled since 2013, when it was $7.25, to $15 today.
Office of Child Trafficking Prevention and Policy (OCTPP)
Recognizing the increasing number of trafficked children in New York City, the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) established this office in 2015 to coordinate the city’s efforts to protect trafficked and at-risk youth.
“Movin’ On”: The NYC Child Tattoo Eradication Project
Launched by ACS in 2018, this free program helps children and youth trafficked by gangs to move forward with their lives by removing the tattoos gang leaders often brand them with.
