We will be hosting our second Career Event this year with Joe Mellott, a career diplomat, who will share his experiences at the State Department, explore career opportunities and give advice on taking the Foreign Service Exam.
Joe Mellott joined the Foreign Service in 2001. He has served as Embassy Spokesman and Press Attache at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, as a press officer in the European Bureau and as the action officer for Afghanistan issues and ISAF at the U.S. Mission to NATO in Brussels. He was also the Executive Officer for the U.S. Ambassador to NATO. Joe's first tour was in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where he was the Non-Immigrant Visa Chief in the Consular Section, and later the Environment, Science, and Technology Officer in the Economic Section.
Before joining the Foreign Service, Joe ran his own consulting business in Sydney, Australia, working with the finance industry on web design and development.
Prior to entering the private sector, Joe worked with the United States Information Agency in Washington as a writer/editor, and served as the Public Affairs Assistant at the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, Albania, and as the Information and Cultural Assistant at the U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Joe has a B.S. in Foreign Service and an M.A. in German and European Studies from Georgetown University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.
