Colonel Bjarne M. Iverson serves as the U.S. Army's Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. He joined CFR after having completed a 17-month assignment as the executive officer to General David H. Petraeus in Iraq and at U.S. Central Command.

He has held a variety of command and staff positions worldwide and his campaigns include: Operations JUST CAUSE, DESERT SHIELD, DESERT STORM, DESERT FOX, DESERT THUNDER, and IRAQI FREEDOM I, III, and VI. He is a graduate of Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the U.S. Army Combined Arms Services Staff School, the Command and General Staff College, and the Army War College. He is a Middle East Foreign Area Officer and holds the Arabic language certification from the Defense Language Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from George Mason University, a Master of Near Eastern Studies from Princeton University, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.

Colonel Iverson's awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Combat Action Badge, Ranger Tab, Airborne Badge, Air Assault Badge, and numerous campaign and service medals. He is also a recipient of the Engineer Regiment's Bronze and Silver Orders of the de Fleury Medal.
