Join us this evening for a presentation and discussion with our special guest Costas Yannopoulos, chairman of THE SMILE OF THE CHILD, the Greek NGO which recently won the European Citizens Prize 2014 given by the European Parliament, for its work on promoting children's rights.

The Smile of the Child cooperates closely with embassies and various state authorities in Athens, to more effectively tackle the problems of child trafficking, unaccompanied minors and bullying, and to promote awareness and prevention around the many issues facing children and minors.

This evening, Costas Yannopoulos will present a wide spectrum of initiatives and target areas that comprise the focus for his non-profit organization. These include: providing a safe living environment for more than 350 children removed by court order from their families, running the National and the Southeastern European Center for Missing and Exploited Children, as well as offering educational programs to schools and families to directly resolve issues of bullying, and providing health services to thousands of children and families across a crisis-stricken Greece.

We hope you'll join us to give a warm welcome to Mr. Yannopoulos, who will offer us his inspirations following our brief Annual Meeting.

Guest Speaker

COSTAS YANNOPOULOS

Costas Yannopoulos was born in Athens, Greece. He studied Marketing at London University where he obtained his Marketing Degree. In addition to his role as Chairman of The Smile of the Child, he is also a Member of the Board of Directors of the International Centre for Missing and Exploited children (ICMEC) and President of the European Anti-bullying Network.

When his younger son Andreas, aged 10, was diagnosed with cancer (brain malignant tumor) in 1995, he left his familiar business field in order to help his son fight this battle for his life and make his wish come true. After the sad loss of Andreas, Mr. Yannopoulos dedicated himself to fulfilling his son's vision. People from the business world as well as Greek society at large became friends and supporters of The Smile of the Child and embraced the wish of Andreas right from the beginning.

The Smile of the Child enjoys special consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and participates to the UN's Department of Public Information. The Greek organization is also a member of Missing Children Europe (MCE), the European Network Eurochild, the European Federation of Street Children (EFSC) and Child Helpline International (CHI) and operates the Southeastern European Center for Missing and Exploited Children (SEEC) since 2010.
