UN Garden Tour
On Tuesday, July 12, a group of UNA-NYC members took a tour of the UN gardens. We were fortunate in two ways. First, that it was a spectacular summer day to view the gardens. And second, we were extremely privileged to have the UN Visitors Services https://www.un.org/en/visit agree to take us around the garden and statues outside the Secretariat building.
Our program started with a delicious lunch at a local restaurant after which we walked down to the UN and were met by our guide from Austria. Some highlights of the tour were an oak tree grown from a shoot from a tree that Anne Frank watched from her hiding place in Amsterdam.
A memorial for Eleanor Roosevelt, our founder, was also one of the special sites. And the rose garden was blooming at its fullest and splashes of vivid color surrounded us.
Unfortunately, we were unable to visit the UN bee hives at this time. It was a splendid program and we hope to be able to offer this tour in the future. We will keep you posted.
